New Book on Car Suspension

Today I received the first copy of my book 'Car Suspension'. It's a slightly strange feeling. I thought I would feel more elated, my family and friends seem delighted for me, and keep telling me how proud they are. I oddly feel slightly flat. At some point during writing the book I came across some words from Churchill.

“Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with it is a toy and an amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and fling him to the public.”

There's no doubt that towards the end, your head is spinning, and this is just a simple work around one subject, not some complicated, convoluted crime thriller. The more progress that you make on your book, no matter how tightly you tried to structure it, at times, it sometimes feels like it's complete chaos. There was a great sense of relief when the publishers gave me the option of creating the index for me, in return for a reduction in remuneration. The index at the end seems to be this huge mountain just waiting for you to climb at the end of your 18 month trek. A simple “get out of Index” card was great value.
