Ram Hot Air

We had an Abarth 500 come into the workshop recently sporting a particularly ineffective air filter. It's branded as Ram-Air but should perhaps be rebranded as Ram Hot-Air. Granted the OE design also draws air from under the bonnet, but it is at least close the headlight so the air is slightly cooler than being drawn from on top of the engine. If you want to gain performance from cooler intake temperature, particularly important on a turbocharged engine, then it is vital to ensure that the filter is drawing cold air.

Balance Motorsport sell the excellent range of BMC Carbon Dynamic Air boxes, Which can easily be configured to draw cold air the engine. On the Abarth 500 we offer this excellent Forge product which draws cool air from behind the wiper scuttle. Forges own testing showed an 8hp increase from this design.
