Tyre Test 2020

Tyre Test 2020
As you probably know your tyres are the most important part of your cars ability to interact with the road. The lastest Autobild test throws up some unusual names in the test.

Michelin have criticised it for being one dimensional (it's only looking at wet and dry braking so I agree) but they still got 6 tyres commended in different sizes.

The Evo Magazine tests are far more in depth and much more useful. Arguably you would see less of these "unknown" brands appearing.

You may be aware Michelin, alone in the market, suggests that tyres should have performance at the legal minimum of 1.6mm published. Michelin are confident enough to say their tyres should be used to the minimum. How many others would do well at this level?

Unfortunately when you have some negative camber wear on the inside edge writes off a tyre long before the rest of the tread gets close to minimum.

See the top 20 on the Autobild test , but bear in mind they are only looking at braking distance, so like Michelin say, it's a bit one dimensional, as high performance driving is about a lot more than just braking and traction. I've some Ventus (albeit a bit old) tyres that have great traction and braking, but very little lateral grip and feel.
