Maserati vs Landrover & #Dieselgate

Maserati Vs Landrover #dieselgate

6th October 2015

So I'm sat here this morning wondering about the future. For years I've felt truly conned by car makers. I never asked for crossovers. I never asked for cars so big I cannot see through or around them. Suddenly #dieselgate may offer a breath of fresh air. Emissions drop hugely with weight. So perhaps we have a future where truly exciting hybrid personal transport can follow? What about a 200 mph flyweight with personal airbag, all weather canopy, 100mpg and only £9995?

Combine the best of the Superbike world with Carbon composite car tech and the future could be truly sensational. What a world away from the boxy cars with diesels that seem to make up nearly half the market now. Gordon Murray is heading in the right direction with I Stream. I see a world where you go to work in personal transport and on the weekend you can use your IStream developed TVR V8 without the burden of high tax. You could run the TVR on gas your house produced during the week and charge it's range booster / torque fill set up via solar on the roof.

Of course if you need or want a big car that is fine. I am all for freedom of choice. However I think that tax needs  to include tailpipe & construction /marketing output. This will be contentious as it has knock on effects for the supply chain, but ultimately the industry has actually increased construction CO2 over recent years which has easily nullified any efforts at the tailpipe.

So the reality is, the restriction on tailpipe emissions must be balanced with the impact of the overall vehicle.

For the time being though, allow me demonstrate how a 10 year old Maserati Quattroporte is cheaper & greener than a Land Rover Discovery.
